Aldama (a) (Chihuahua, Mexico) IIIAB (iron) Found 1985

A visually attractive iron meteorite, classified as a medium octahedrite but with a very unusual etch pattern. Aldama (A) has undergone heating and recrystallization while still in space, causing the crystal boundaries to merge. The faint Widmanstatten pattern can still be seen, but the etched face reveals an abundance of bright crystal "mosaics" of nickel-rich & nickel-poor globules, very similar (though smaller) to the appearance of Squaw Creek. A rare iron with a unique appearance!
