The Science of Cosmic Disaster
Last year a meteorite entered the atmosphere over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk and exploded with an energy of nuclear weapon. This talk will look at why this event occurred and the physics, geology and chemistry of cosmic disasters on Earth from the constant rain of extraterrestrial dust to the impact that caused the Dinosaurs to become extinct.
Dr Matthew Genge
Matt Genge is a planetary scientist who studies meteorites, impacts, Mars and cosmic dust. In his research he has worked on planetary space missions such as NASA STARDUST, he has collected meteorites and cosmic dust in the Antarctic and has mounted expeditions in the Sahara. Matt Genge also currently writes about science in the magazine "Science Uncovered".
