Russian Antarctic Meteorite Expedition

Some news from our colleagues in Russia...

I see from this URFU news page that there'll be a Russian Antarctic Meteorite Expedition. The expedition leader is Victor Grokhovsky. The expedition web site is here. The team's details are here. As far as I can work out they'll be heading to the blue-ice fields around the Wohlthat Mountains near here.

Tass report that the Russian team will depart for Antarctica on the 14th December for a expedition of twenty days, returning in mid-January.

There's an update from Ural federal University, which indicates that the team are now deployed in the field and will shortly begin their work of searching for meteorites.

After having to remain in base for six days, due to bad weather, the Russian team are reporting their first meteorite find. Congratulations to the team. I hope they manage to find many more.
