Hi, I'm new today and I think I have a find.

Postby Justinaj6747 » Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:33 pm

Hi
I am brand new to Meteorites, however I am a Gem collector and so I have some knowledge of Geology.
I found this piece in Beverly, East Yorkshire.
Best dimensions I can offer are; 15x21x12 centimetres, dark Grey in colour and highly attracted to magnets. The weight is around 5.400 grams.it also has a 'golden schiller' and presents itself as almost reflective. I also under x25 magnification saw what I would describe as tiny Olivine Crystals.
I will not bombard you with irrelevant information, however I will answer any questions, I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for any help you can give.
Justin Jemison..

Not a great pic but I had to reduce the file size.

I would say it's terrestrial...no real characteristics of being a meteorite...the vesicles or vugs are very unlikely to be found in meteorites...no typical regmaglypts or crust evident. Are there any signs of Nickel iron flecks anywhere in the matrix?

Looks like a piece of slag from a foundry. 99% sure not a meteorite. What were the find details? Have you tested for nickel?

I would agree with Luther...seems to have signs of vesicles.
