In October 1957 newspapers around the world carried reports of a meteorite fall in Sunbury-on-Thames, on the outskirts of London. Quickly dismissed as a hoax, the story was largely forgotten until the recent discovery of a press agency photograph of the object on an online auction site. Subsequent research has revealed a fascinating story involving a three-year-old girl, the Metropolitan Police, three miniature poodles and the Keeper of Mineralogy at the Natural History Museum.
