Rob Lenssen's visit to the Manchester Museum

Postby msg-meteorites » Sun Oct 30, 2011 1:44 pm

During a visit to the UK on his family holiday fellow meteorite Rob Lenssen from the Netherlands visited me and followed this up with a visit to the Manchester Museum. He has now added a page on his visit to his website, please take a look at the link below:

There are some nice photos of their meteorites on display. A few BIMS members also had a behind the scenes visit to the museum in February 2010 and there is an article by Matt Smith about our visit on the BIMS website, link is below:

Thanks Martin,

Rob's photographs bring back fond memories of our visit to Manchester.

I see Rob has also visited the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge. Anyone got any ideas where the stone, on display there, originates?

Hi David,

Sorry, no idea on this one at all, could be any chondrite at all. Hopefully the museum know what it is? Otherwise its just an un marked, un labelled specimen without any chance of correctly identifying it.

Sounds like a good idea Matt, where do people fancy going to? I know we had planned on going to the Liverpool world museum and i would still be up for that. Would also love to go behind the scenes at the NHM at some point, i know BIMS had a visit there a while ago but i would make every effort to attend if we we could organise another visit there. What do people think?
