I've done it now...

Postby Marko » Thu May 26, 2011 11:41 am

After some months of humming and arring, I finally ordered one of these:

The MXT 300 was one I've seen reliably recommended for meteorite hunting. So now I just need to find a likely location, get permission, and haul my sorry arse out one weekend! :)

Nice one Mark! You are welcome to join me at either Ashdon or my Suffolk site later in the year, September onwards. In the meantime, let us know how you get on with field testing the beast.

Cool Mark! I'm thinking of getting something similar, that's a bit pricy for me though. Not sure if there are any sites in SW England(Somerset area) to look at, although I have seen one or two likely areas when out and about. I shall get the map out and do some contour studies.

I may take you up on that. Mind you, given that the last time I had a metal detector was abut 1976 (a £15 orange plastic job from Tandy!), I know bugger all about using one in anger and 'field testing' may translate into 'failed testing' ;)

Yeah, the price was part of the reason for the humming and harring. I had a good sales week on eBay last week though, and decided that instead of buying more meteorites, it would be better to invest the money in something which could find me some of my own.

Funny how your mind works when you're trying to justify something to yourself :)
