Many of you will be aware that the 74th Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society is being held in London from 8th - 12th August 2011. Full details are available on the official site metsoc2011.org. An abstract outlining the role and philosophy of BIMS in the British and Irish meteorite community has been accepted as part of the Education and Outreach poster session taking place on the evening of Thursday 11th August 2011. You can read the full abstract "The British and Irish Meteorite Society (BIMS): Preparing for a Fall" here. For further details of the Education and Outreach Posters session see here.

There are many, many other abstracts that BIMS members will be interested to read, for starters could I suggest the following in no particular order:

  • #5326 THE METEORITE FROM LAKE HOUSE (C.T. Pillinger, J.M. Pillinger, R.C. Greenwood, D. Johnson, A.G. Tindle, A.J.T. Jull and M. Ashcroft)
  • #5321 THE DANEBURY IRON AGE METEORITE (C.T. Pillinger, J.M. Pillinger, R.C. Greenwood, D. Johnson, A.G. Tindle, A.J.T. Jull and D.W.H. Allen)
  • #5277 APPLICATION OF LICHENOMETRY TO METEORITE STUDIES (J.M. Pillinger, C.T. Pillinger, M. Powell and M. Butler)
  • #5317 EVALUATION OF VARIOUS HYPOTHESES RELATING TO THE LOCATION OF THE FALL AND THE SUBSEQUENT HISTORY OF A LARGE METEORITE LATELY RECOVERED IN WILTSHIRE, UK (C.T. Pillinger and J.M. Pillinger)
  • #5334 NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM (LONDON) METEORITE COLLECTION DIGITISATION PROJECT (D-J Cassey, D. A. Smith and C. L. Smith.)
  • #5474 WHERE ARE ALL THE TERRESTRIAL METEORITES? (M. Simms)

Be warned, you could easily lose a day or two perusing the MetSoc 2011 abstracts!
