131212 - BIMS Donations

Postby msg-meteorites » Thu Dec 12, 2013 10:07 pm

Hi all,

The British and Irish Meteorite Society has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years. We have a great website and a new forum which is working well. We are also attending more and more outreach/educational events which we have had excellent feedback from. The more events we attend the more we get asked to do and we have a number of such events planned for 2014. To ensure that we can continue in this vein and improve even more, we as a society have decided that instead of charging a membership fee, we will instead ask for donations on a yearly basis. This then leaves it up to individual members whether to donate or not. The more we grow as a society and the more outreach/educational events that we attend the greater grow our costs. At the moment our website and associated fees are paid by a single member. Our display boards and lighting again have been paid for by another member and the cost of printing posters have been borne by someone else etc. etc. Some of these costs are one off purchases and we get continued use out of those investments, however others are ongoing costs and it really shouldn't be the case that these are continually paid for by the same individual members. These are the reasons we are asking for donations and the money raised each year will go towards these continuing expenses. Each and every item of expenditure will be discussed on the forum and before being paid must be authorised by Mark Ford (Chairman) and myself (Treasurer) On a yearly basis i will also post the totals for money raised and money spent so the process is transparent.

The Paypal email to donate to is britishmeteorite@gmail.com We have suggested a donation amount of £10 but if you wish to donate less (or more) then that is fine too :-)

We will do a yearly call for donations and the date for this has been selected as 13th December which is the date which the Wold Cottage meteorite fell in 1795 :-)

I would also ask that you consider what it is that you like about BIMS (or don't like), any suggestions as to what we could do that we don't do already, anything we can improve upon etc. etc. Depending on the amount of money raised we may be able to fund other projects that we currently are unable to do. Your feedback as a member is very important and we value every idea or suggestion that we receive, This is your society and without your membership we wouldn't exist :-)

Many thanks in advance for your assistance in making BIMS the society that it is and helping to make it even better :-)

Cheers

Martin

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has donated so far, it really is appreciated by us all :-) I will leave it a few weeks before tallying up in case anyone is still yet to make their donation :-)

Cheers
